Rule 6
Period to be kept in quarantine
:
(1) If an updated and authentic certificate of vaccination against existing diseases in Nepal is presented in the country from which the animal is to be imported, the quarantine officer may keep such animal in quarantine after checking the identification mark according to the certificate and if the animal is found to be healthy, it may be released.
(2) If it cannot be ascertained according to sub-rule (1) or if the animal is not found healthy or if it is imported without an authentic certificate of vaccination, such animal shall be kept in the quarantine place.
(3) According to sub-rule (2), if an animal has to be kept in quarantine for the following diseases, it shall be kept for the following period and in case of other diseases, it shall be kept for the period prescribed by the Government of Nepal by publishing a notice in the Nepal Gazette:-
(A) Rinderpest ( Rindetpest) – 21 days
(B) Foot and Mouth Disease (Foot and Mouth Disease) – 14 days
(c) Pestes des petits ruminants (Pestes des petits ruminants) – 21 days
(D) Lumpy Skin Disease (Lumpy Skin Disease) – 21 days
(e) Sheep Pox and Goat Pox – 21 days
(f) Blue Tongue – 40 days
(G) African Swine Fever (African Swine Fever) – 40 days
(H) Classical Swine Fever (Classical Swine Fever) – 40 days
(i) African Horse Sickness (African Horse Sickness) – 40 days
(j) Vesicular Stomatitis (Vesicular Stomatitis) – 21 days
(k) Swine Vesicular Disease (Swine Vesicular Disease) – 28 days
(l) Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia – 6 months
(d) Rift Valley Fever (Rift Valley Fever) – 30 days
(d) Fowl Plague – 21 days
(n) New Castle Disease (New Castle Disease) – 21 days
(T) Bird flu (Highly Pathogenic Avion Influenza)-21 days.
(4) In determining the period to be kept in quarantine in relation to diseases other than those mentioned in sub-rule (3), it should be determined in such a way as to correspond to the period of time (incubation period) during which the symptoms of the disease appear after the pathogen enters the body..
(5) Animals that have completed the prescribed quarantine period in accordance with this rule shall be vaccinated against infectious diseases prescribed by the quarantine officer from time to time by publishing a public notice. The related importer will have to bear the cost of such vaccination.
(6) Imported animal products or animal products may be released by the quarantine officer if deemed appropriate after testing.
(7) Animals, animal products or animal products kept in quarantine must be taken away by the importer within three days from the date of issuing the quarantine certificate or the date of completion of the test. If it is not done within that period, the quarantine officer may confiscate it. (8) Dead animals, grains, droppings, faeces, urine or objects related to or coming out of animals shall not be taken out of the quarantine place without the written order of the relevant quarantine officer.
